A plumbing or HVAC company has four routes to an AI receptionist. Built into your field service software: Housecall Pro CSR AI and ServiceTitan AI Virtual Agent (Jobber's could not be checked). Home services answering products with published plans: Rosie from $49 a month, Smith.ai from free or $150 a month, Sameday from $449 a month, and Avoca (demo-led, no published price). Platforms you or an agency build on: Retell from $0.07 a minute, Vapi from $0.05 a minute plus model costs, Bland from $0.14 a minute, ElevenLabs with a free tier, Goodcall from $79 a month, and Synthflow from $30,000 a year. Or a custom build on your existing number, like the one The Snow Media runs for Ironclad Plumbing. Only Retell, Avoca, Smith.ai, Sameday and the custom build state explicit emergency routing.

How This List Was Built
Selection criteria
- The product or vendor was named by an AI assistant (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude or Perplexity) when asked which companies build the best AI voice receptionists for home service businesses, or who can build an AI voice agent to answer calls for a plumbing business, in September 2026.
- We opened its homepage, pricing page and an integrations or home services page and recorded only what those pages state. "Not published" means the fact is not stated publicly.
- Emergency routing is marked "yes" only where the vendor's own wording describes urgent or emergency call handling, not where it lists generic escalation rules.
- Jobber's AI Receptionist could not be checked: getjobber.com served a bot-verification page on every attempt, so it is described only in the note below.
- The Snow Media's custom build is included with the same fields as the products. Ordering is alphabetical. Nothing here is a ranking.
Disclosure
The Snow Media wrote this guide and builds custom AI voice agents; its Ironclad Plumbing build appears in the table with the same fields as every product, and every vendor is linked so you can check the pages yourself.
The Options, One by One
Best for: Established HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies on ServiceTitan that want a vendor to run inbound, speed-to-lead and Google LSA responses with a human call center behind the AI.
Why they stand out: Positioned as the AI front office for service businesses, with a hybrid call center that transfers to Avoca's own human CSR team when the AI cannot handle a call. ServiceTitan certified app, speed-to-lead for every inbound lead source, and explicit emergency routing: the demo timeline shows a burst pipe, a sewer backup and a water heater leak routed to a technician. States 1,000+ service leaders as customers and a $125M Series B.
Keep in mind: No pricing anywhere on the site (the pricing URL returns a 404); everything starts with a 20-minute demo. Phone number provisioning is not described.
- Type: Managed service for home services
- Published pricing: not published (demo-led)
- Setup: Done-for-you
- Integrations named: ServiceTitan (certified app), Google LSA
- Human handoff: Yes, to Avoca human CSRs
- Emergency routing: Yes, routes emergencies to a tech
Best for: Companies with a developer or an agency partner that want per-minute pricing, an included inbound number and an enterprise path with forward-deployed engineers.
Why they stand out: Start plan at $0.14 a minute with no platform fee, no card required, two credits and an inbound number included; transfers billed at $0.05 a minute. Home services is a listed vertical (24/7 answering, booking, dispatch and follow-up for HVAC, plumbing, electrical and cleaning). Integrations named include Twilio, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zapier, Make, Calendly and SIP. SOC 2, HIPAA-eligible, PCI and FedRAMP badges.
Keep in mind: No emergency routing wording, no field-service software named, and warm and live transfers are marked enterprise-only in its own comparison table even though the self-serve tiers list a transfer rate.
- Type: Developer platform (enterprise managed option)
- Published pricing: From $0.14/min, $0 platform fee
- Setup: Self-serve or enterprise FDE build
- Integrations named: Twilio, Salesforce, HubSpot, Zapier, Make, Calendly, SIP

Custom-built agent (The Snow Media) This is us
Best for: Plumbing and HVAC companies that want an agent built around their own call flow and existing phone number, with emergency escalation to the owner and a searchable call log, and want the same team to run the ads that generate the calls.
Why they stand out: The Ironclad Plumbing build in Naples runs on Twilio (telephony), Claude (conversation), ElevenLabs (voice) and Supabase (call log). It answers on the company's existing number 24/7, classifies each call as routine, urgent, emergency or general inquiry, captures address and contact details, books the visit, escalates true emergencies to the owner's cell, and logs every call with a transcript, urgency tag and next step. In its first 30-day window it answered 39 calls, booked 56.4% of them as work and produced $38,674 in revenue. The Snow Media also built the estimate follow-up automation in Housecall Pro that recovered $18,349 in 30 days for the same company.
Keep in mind: A custom build, not a product: pricing is quoted per engagement and there is no self-serve trial. One published deployment so far. Ask for the call log and the ROI dashboard from the Ironclad build before deciding.
- Type: Custom build by an agency
- Published pricing: Quoted per engagement
- Setup: Done-for-you
- Integrations named: Twilio, Claude, ElevenLabs, Supabase; Housecall Pro (follow-up build)
- Human handoff: Yes, escalates to owner's cell
- Emergency routing: Yes, routine/urgent/emergency classification
Best for: Teams that want the voice quality ElevenLabs is known for, a free tier to prototype on and a no-code builder, and will handle telephony and integrations themselves or through an agency.
Why they stand out: Free plan at $0 a month with 15 minutes of calls, four concurrent calls, a workflow builder and knowledge base; paid tiers above that with telephony billed separately. Named integrations include Zapier, n8n, Make, Salesforce, HubSpot, Shopify, Zendesk, Twilio and Amazon Connect, plus SIP trunking. Enterprise offers forward-deployed engineers. Compliance badges include SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001, HIPAA and PCI DSS Level 1, and it supports 70+ languages.
Keep in mind: No home services wording, no explicit human call transfer feature stated on the pages checked, and no emergency routing. Phone numbers are not provisioned in the plan price.
- Type: Developer platform with no-code builder
- Published pricing: Free tier ($0, 15 minutes); telephony billed separately
- Setup: Self-serve or enterprise FDE
- Integrations named: Twilio, SIP, Zapier, n8n, Make, HubSpot, Salesforce, Shopify
- Human handoff: not published
- Emergency routing: not published
Best for: Owners who want to launch an AI phone agent themselves in minutes on a flat monthly fee with unlimited minutes, and connect it to their tools through Zapier.
Why they stand out: Starter at $79 a month per agent ($66 on annual billing) with unlimited minutes, one logic flow and a new phone number in your chosen area code, or keep your existing number. No demos and no gated features. Zapier is natively integrated, so leads can flow into a CRM or booking tool. Calls transfer to your business line by default, with routing rules and fallbacks. States 42,000+ businesses and origins at Google in 2017.
Keep in mind: Not home services specific, no field-service integrations named, and no emergency or urgent-call wording. The free trial length is not stated on the pages checked.
- Type: No-code builder
- Published pricing: From $79/mo per agent, unlimited minutes
- Setup: Self-serve
- Integrations named: Zapier (10,000+ tools), CRM and calendar via Zapier
- Human handoff: Yes, transfers to your line
- Emergency routing: not published
Best for: Housecall Pro users who want an AI assistant that already knows their jobs, services and availability and books straight onto the calendar.
Why they stand out: Built into Housecall Pro, so it reads your jobs, services, availability and business info without integration work, answers across calls, chats and texts, and puts booked jobs on the calendar with no extra steps. Configurable hours, scripts and escalation rules from one dashboard. Housecall Pro plans start from $59 a month with a 14-day free trial.
Keep in mind: CSR AI pricing is not published separately, the text channel is in alpha, and human handoff and emergency handling are described only as configurable escalation rules.
- Type: Built into field service software
- Published pricing: not published (Housecall Pro from $59/mo)
- Setup: Self-serve in-app
- Integrations named: Housecall Pro (native)
- Human handoff: Escalation rules (not detailed)
- Emergency routing: not published
Best for: Companies (or their agency) that want a pay-as-you-go platform with a dedicated home services setup, named integrations with ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro and Jobber, and explicit emergency call handling.
Why they stand out: Pay as you go at $0.07 to $0.31 a minute with $10 in free credits and phone numbers at $2 a month, or connect an existing number by SIP trunking. A dedicated home services page covers HVAC, plumbing emergencies, pest control and electrical, names ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber and Zendesk integrations, and describes 24/7 emergency call handling for no heat, no cooling, no hot water and leaks with routing to the right technician. Agentic human handoffs brief a human before connecting the customer. HIPAA, SOC 2 Type II, GDPR and ISO 27001 claims, and professional forward-deployed implementation is available.
Keep in mind: Someone still has to design and maintain the agent; the no-code studio lowers the bar but this is a platform, not a done-for-you receptionist.
- Type: Developer platform with no-code studio
- Published pricing: $0.07 to $0.31/min, numbers $2/mo
- Setup: Self-serve or FDE-led
- Integrations named: ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, Jobber, Zendesk
- Human handoff: Yes, agentic handoff
- Emergency routing: Yes, 24/7 emergency handling
Best for: Small plumbing and HVAC shops that want an AI answering service trained from their website and Google profile in minutes, on a plan starting at $49 a month with a free trial.
Why they stand out: Professional plan at $49 a month for 250 minutes, with custom message taking, appointment links by text, spam screening and a number in your area code; Growth at $299 adds white-glove onboarding, and the Scale plan adds warm transfers where Rosie briefs your team first. Seven-day free trial with all features. Dedicated home services page, English and Spanish on every call, Zapier on all plans, and it sorts hot versus cold leads. States 2,000+ local businesses and 3.1M+ calls handled.
Keep in mind: Emergency routing is not a distinct feature (it sorts hot and cold leads and sends instant alerts), and no field-service software is named beyond a generic calendar and Zapier.
- Type: Self-serve AI answering service
- Published pricing: From $49/mo (250 minutes); $299 with onboarding
- Setup: Self-serve; onboarding on Growth
- Integrations named: Zapier, calendar links
- Human handoff: Yes, warm or cold transfer
- Emergency routing: Hot/cold lead sorting only
Best for: Home service companies that want AI and human CSRs on one phone system, with certified ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro connections, outbound follow-up agents and published pricing.
Why they stand out: Launch plan from $449 a month with 500 minutes and unlimited users. ServiceTitan certified app, plus Housecall Pro, FieldRoutes (official partner), AccuLynx, JobNimbus, Maid Central and Service Fusion, and lead platforms Thumbtack and Google Local Services. Warm transfers with context, escalation rules by intent, keyword, value or time of day, and explicit routing of no-heat emergencies and angry customers to a person. Port your number or keep your carrier. Nearly 2,000 service businesses run on it. Also runs outbound agents for reactivation, open-estimate follow-up and storm rebooking.
Keep in mind: Setup starts with a 15-minute demo rather than a free trial, and minutes above the plan are priced per tier.
- Type: No-code AI phone system for home services
- Published pricing: From $449/mo (500 minutes)
- Setup: Self-configured after demo
- Integrations named: ServiceTitan (certified), Housecall Pro, FieldRoutes, AccuLynx, JobNimbus, Google LSA, Thumbtack

ServiceTitan AI Virtual Agent (Pro)
Best for: ServiceTitan shops that want the AI booking straight onto the dispatch board with the same call classification, scorecards and reporting their CSRs use.
Why they stand out: Fully native to ServiceTitan: books to the dispatch board with real-time technician availability, uses the same agent scorecard, dashboards and call types, and can be configured in about 20 minutes with a self-serve knowledge base. Live escalation transfers to a human when needed. Built exclusively for the trades and compatible with any phone system.
Keep in mind: Pricing is request-only and priced per technician as part of ServiceTitan Pro, there is no free trial, and no emergency-specific wording beyond AI call classification and job-type rules.
- Type: Built into field service software
- Published pricing: Request pricing (ServiceTitan Pro)
- Setup: Self-serve configuration in ServiceTitan
- Integrations named: ServiceTitan (native), any phone system
- Human handoff: Yes, live escalation
- Emergency routing: not published (call classification only)

Why they stand out: Free forever plan at $0 a month to set up yourself, Pro from $150 a month for 75 calls ($2 a call) with dedicated onboarding, Enterprise from $500 a month for 300 calls with full-service setup. AI answers first and can transfer to a live North America-based receptionist day or night. A dedicated home services page describes routing logic that evaluates urgency keywords such as gas leak, no heat, flooding and sparking against your thresholds to dispatch immediately or schedule. Claims real-time syncing with 7,000+ integrations.
Keep in mind: Per-call pricing rather than per-minute, no field-service software named specifically on the pages checked, and phone number provisioning is not described.
- Type: Managed service (AI plus live agents)
- Published pricing: Free; Pro from $150/mo (75 calls); Enterprise from $500/mo
- Setup: Self-serve, onboarding on Pro and up
- Integrations named: 7,000+ tools (generic)

- Emergency routing: Yes, keyword urgency triage
Best for: Multi-location or franchise operators that want a forward-deployed team to launch and run agents on a no-code flow designer, with vertical CRM connections to Jobber, Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan.
Why they stand out: Visual flow designer with in-house telephony (or SIP and your own carrier), forward-deployed engineers who launch agents in weeks, and implementation, onboarding, testing and ongoing optimization included in the contract. Integrations page lists Jobber, Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan under vertical CRM, plus Google and Microsoft calendars, Cal.com and Twilio. SOC 2, HIPAA, PCI DSS and GDPR certifications claimed.
Keep in mind: Enterprise contracts start at $30,000 a year and there is no self-serve tier or free trial on the pages checked. No home services positioning and no emergency routing wording.
- Type: Enterprise no-code platform
- Published pricing: From $30,000/year
- Setup: Done-for-you (FDE)
- Integrations named: Jobber, Housecall Pro, ServiceTitan, Google Calendar, Twilio
- Human handoff: Yes, escalation paths

Best for: Companies with an engineer or an agency that want the lowest platform rate and full API control, and will assemble telephony, models and integrations themselves.
Why they stand out: Build plan is usage based: $0.05 a minute hosting with model costs at cost (or $0 with your own API keys), $5 in free credits with no card. Warm transfers, voicemail detection, multi-agent squads with handoffs, phone number management and custom SIP, plus 200+ built-in integrations. Claims 1M+ developers and sub-500ms latency, with SOC 2, HIPAA and PCI compliance.
Keep in mind: No home services wording, no field-service software named, and no emergency routing. It is the most assembly-required option here.
- Type: Developer platform
- Published pricing: $0.05/min hosting plus model costs
- Setup: Self-serve (enterprise support available)
- Integrations named: 200+ generic, custom SIP
- Human handoff: Yes, warm transfers

Jobber AI Receptionist: Named by AI, Not Verifiable Here
Jobber's AI Receptionist is one of the three built-in options AI assistants recommend most for smaller plumbing companies. On September 12, 2026 every request to getjobber.com, including the AI receptionist feature page and the pricing page, returned a bot-verification interstitial, so nothing about its pricing, setup, transfer behavior or emergency handling could be confirmed from the source. Jobber users should check the feature page directly; the built-in logic is likely to resemble Housecall Pro CSR AI (native to jobs and calendar, configurable escalation) but that is an inference, not a verified fact.
How to Choose an AI Receptionist for a Plumbing or HVAC Company
Start with your field service software. If you run ServiceTitan, three options plug in natively or as certified apps: ServiceTitan's own AI Virtual Agent, Avoca and Sameday. If you run Housecall Pro, CSR AI is built in, and Sameday, Retell and Synthflow name Housecall Pro integrations; The Snow Media's follow-up automation for Ironclad also runs inside Housecall Pro. Jobber users have Jobber's own receptionist (unverified here), Retell and Synthflow.
Decide who builds and maintains it. Rosie, Goodcall, Smith.ai's free plan and the built-in options are set up by you. Avoca, Synthflow and Smith.ai Enterprise are done for you. Retell, Vapi, Bland and ElevenLabs are platforms that need someone to design the agent: an in-house technical person or an agency. A custom build like The Snow Media's gives you the most control over call flow and escalation and the least self-serve flexibility.
Read the pricing unit. Rosie ($49 for 250 minutes) and Sameday ($449 for 500 minutes) price by minutes on a plan. Smith.ai prices per call ($2 on Pro). Retell ($0.07 to $0.31), Vapi ($0.05 plus models) and Bland ($0.14) price per minute of usage. Goodcall charges a flat $79 per agent with unlimited minutes. Synthflow starts at $30,000 a year. A plumbing company taking 300 calls a month at three minutes each lands in very different places on each model, so run your own call volume through all of them.
Test the emergency path before anything else. The whole point for a plumber is the 9 PM burst pipe. Retell, Avoca, Smith.ai, Sameday and the custom build describe explicit emergency routing (keyword triage, routing to a technician, escalation to the owner). Rosie sorts hot and cold leads, Housecall Pro and ServiceTitan expose escalation and classification rules, and Vapi, Bland, ElevenLabs, Goodcall and Synthflow publish nothing about it. Whatever you pick, call your own number after hours and say "my basement is flooding" before you sign.
Keep your number and your data. Sameday, Rosie, Goodcall, Retell (SIP trunking), Bland and the custom build let you keep your existing number. Ask every vendor whether call recordings, transcripts and booking data export cleanly, and who owns the phone number if you leave.
Methodology & Sources
On September 12, 2026 we opened each vendor's homepage, pricing page and an integrations or home services page and recorded only what those pages state, with a URL for each fact. Prices are quoted as published, in the vendor's units. "Not published" means the vendor does not state the fact publicly. Emergency routing is recorded as "yes" only where the vendor's wording describes urgent or emergency call handling. The Snow Media wrote this guide, builds custom voice agents, and is included with the same fields; the list is alphabetical and is not a ranking.

Frequently Asked Questions
On published pricing: Smith.ai has a free forever plan you set up yourself, Rosie starts at $49 a month for 250 minutes with a seven-day trial, Goodcall is $79 a month per agent with unlimited minutes, and Retell is pay-as-you-go from $0.07 a minute with $10 in free credits. Sameday starts at $449 a month for 500 minutes, and Synthflow starts at $30,000 a year. Avoca, Housecall Pro CSR AI and ServiceTitan AI Virtual Agent do not publish a price for the AI receptionist itself.
ServiceTitan: its own AI Virtual Agent (native), Avoca (certified app), Sameday (certified app), Retell and Synthflow (named integrations). Housecall Pro: CSR AI (built in), Sameday, Retell and Synthflow. Jobber: Jobber's own receptionist, Retell and Synthflow. Rosie and Goodcall connect through Zapier; Vapi, Bland and ElevenLabs name Twilio, SIP and generic CRM connectors but not field-service software.
Retell describes 24/7 emergency handling for no heat, no cooling, no hot water and leaks with routing to the right technician. Avoca shows burst pipes, sewer backups and water heater leaks routed to a tech. Smith.ai evaluates urgency keywords such as gas leak, no heat, flooding and sparking against your thresholds. Sameday routes no-heat emergencies and angry customers to a person instantly by intent, keyword, value or time of day. The Snow Media's custom build classifies every call as routine, urgent, emergency or general inquiry and escalates true emergencies to the owner's cell. The other options publish generic escalation rules or nothing.
Buy a product (Rosie, Smith.ai, Sameday, Goodcall, or the option built into your field service software) if you want it running this week and your call flow is standard. Use a platform (Retell, Vapi, Bland, ElevenLabs) if you have an engineer or an agency to design, test and maintain the agent, and you want per-minute economics at scale. Hire a custom build when the call flow, escalation logic and reporting need to match how your office actually works. The Ironclad Plumbing build answered 39 calls and booked 56% of them as work, worth $38,674, in its first 30 days, on the company's existing number.
Yes with Sameday (port or keep your carrier), Rosie and Goodcall (forward calls or keep your number), Retell and Vapi (SIP trunking), Bland (built-in Twilio or your own) and a custom build such as The Snow Media's, which answers on the company's existing number. Avoca, Smith.ai, ElevenLabs, Housecall Pro CSR AI and ServiceTitan do not describe number handling on the pages checked, so ask.
